Toy <-- The trim on
the left is what is currently being promoted by
various people in America as the "HCC Trim"
(historically correct continental), suitable for
use by all Poodles particularly those for field and
other performance activities. It is
simply a more severe, less stylised, version of
today's Continental Trim. It conforms to the Breed
Standard requirement in terms of trim
pattern. PARTIS - HARLEQUINS - PHANTOMS which
has a white base coat with spots, patches or
saddling of a different colour, often
black. consisting
of two colours in the combination of Black and Tan,
Black and White, Black and Silver, Silver and
Cream, Apricot and Tan. Generally the pattern of
markings will be the same as seen on a Dobermann
Pinscher (that is, the marking are
symmetrical). consisting
of three or more colours.
# In Germany, Black
and White Partis are registered as "Harlekin", the
Black and Apricot Partis as "Black and
Tan" It
should be noted that the Australian Breed Standard
requires "any solid colour" so the above Poodles
would be ineligible for the show ring in Australia
and cannot be registered. PLEASE
NOTE: PoodlesInAustralia.com does NOT encourage the
breeding of mismarked Poodles - so many breeders
over so many generations
have worked
hard to create the required "solid colour" (and
breed out the mismark which was common in the
ancestors of the current day Poodle). We
acknowledge this fact and in no way condone the
deliberate breeding of a mismarked
Poodle. That
said, it should also be noted: In
Europe they can be shown in either or both club and
championship shows - regulations vary from country
to country. In
America they can be registered with the Americaqn
Kennel Club and can compete in Agility and
Obedience ..... ....and
rightly so, as a mismarked Poodle (through no fault
of its own - entirely caused by the breeders) is
still a PURE BRED Poodle and it is to be hoped
Australia joins the REST OF THE WORLD in
acknowledging this fact. If
America and all European countries can recognise
it, why can't Australia? Nola Molloy is a very well
known and successful Australian Standard &
Miniature Poodle breeder with numerous champion and
obedience titled Poodles bred under her "Chappelle"
prefix. "I have been breeding
them (partis and harlequins) for 11 years
from solid colours. It has taken me many years to
get good type to go with the colours. They are not
registered as I felt the solid pups could have
ended up back in the solid lines ..... I know
breeders have worked to keep the white spotting
gene OUT so a solid dog with parti genes WOULD
cause trouble."
